Being her saviour, the look in her eyes speaks a thousand words. Really great. Use of DOF is good, but I think it could have done with a bit more contrast - maybe just my screen? Might be levels. You obviously did a good job with her - she doesn't have the look of someone traumatized. It is great to have caring people in the world. Thanks for sharing.

You may have missed a little bit more sharpness - older picture & scan? - but the little girl is so adorable! And you really made a lovely & well framed portrait!

I like the DOF. Maybe the overall shot is a bit too balanced. The framing is nice. Also the collar of her shirt is making some weird pink reflections on her lower face. If that isn't the effect you wanted you could try selecting some of that area and using the replace color option of photoshop to bring back her natural skin color which is lovely.
