Albizia julibrissin

Albizia julibrissin is a small deciduous tree growing to 5 – 12 m tall, with a broad crown of level or arching branches. The bark is dark greenish grey in colour and striped vertically as it gets older. The leaves are tripinnate, 20 – 45 cm long and 12 – 25 cm broad, divided into 6 – 12 pairs of pinnae, each with 20 – 30 pairs of leaflets; the leaflets are oblong, 1 – 1.5 cm long and 2 – 4 mm broad. The flowers are produced throughout the summer in dense inflorescences, the individual flowers with no petals but a tight cluster of stamens 2 – 3 cm long, white or pink with a white base, looking like silky threads. They have been observed to be attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The fruit is a flat brown pod 10 – 20 cm long and 2 – 2.5 cm broad, containing several seeds inside.
There are two varieties:
• Albizia julibrissin var. julibrissin. The typical variety, described above.
• Albizia julibrissin var. mollis. Differs in the shoots being densely hairy.
There is also a form, Albizia julibrissin f. rosea which has, in the past, been classed either as a variety or as a cultivar. This is a smaller tree, only growing to 5 – 7 m tall, with the flowers always pink. Native to the northeast of the species' range in Korea and northern China, it is more cold-tolerant than the typical form, surviving temperatures down to at least -25 °C.

Molte specie vengono coltivate come piante ornamentali, tra le più diffuse ricordiamo l'Albizia julibrissin nota come Acacia di Costantinopoli o Gaggia arborea coltivata nel Nord Italia, l'Albizia lophanta di origine australiana che viene coltivata anche nel Sud Italia ed infine l'Albizia anthelmintica originaria dell'Africa, e l'Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth., albero dalle foglie composte, formate da 4-9 paia di foglioline, lunghe fino a 30 cm, i fiori sono grandi e profumati, simili a quelli delle mimose, di colore giallo-crema, originario del Nord Africa. sono tutte piante semi-rustiche che sopportano bene anche gli ambienti inquinati o salmastri e ben si adattano all'arredo urbano di viali, parchi e giardini.

C'est un arbre qui peut atteindre 12 m de haut avec un houppier en couronne.
Son écorce est gris-vert et se raye verticalement en vieillissant.
Ses feuilles longues de 20 à 45 cm et larges de 12 à 25 cm sont bipennées et se referment la nuit, caractéristique qu'il partage avec d'autres membres de la sous-famille des Mimosoidées.
Ses fleurs, appréciées des floristes, sont de couleur rose-pâle à rose-rouge et rassemblées en panicules à l'extrémité des branches. Elles apparaissent en été, n'ont pas de pétale mais un grand nombre d'étamines de 2 à 3 cm de long. Elles sont appréciées des abeilles, papillons et des oiseaux.
Le fruit est une gousse plate de 10 à 20 cm long et 2 à 3 cm de large contenant de nombreuses graines.
L'Albizia julibrissin ne vit généralement pas plus de 25 ans.

Es originaria del sureste y este de Asia, desde el este de Irán hasta China y Corea.
El género está dedicado al noble italiano Filippo del Albizzi, quien la introdujo a Europa a mediados del siglo XVIII, y a veces es denominada incorrectamente "Albizzia". El epíteto julibrissin es una corrupción del farsi Gul-i Abrisham (گل ابریشم) que significa árbol de seda, por sus flores ("Gul" گل es "flor" y "Abrisham" ابریشم significa "seda").

This is delightfully colorful and detailed:) I'm not sure what caused the white effects behind the center blossom (perhaps a little over-processed?)...it is a bit distracting. Overall, however, this is appealing and nicely presented. Keep up the good work:)
