[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is Samantha from my previous post "Little Princess". Last Sunday morning the family had breakfast together and I brought my camera along wanting to try out my new lens that Paul got for me - a Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime! I just love the very shallow depth of field you can achieve with it and also its performance in low light.

Wanting to keep f/1.8 I set the camera to aperture-dependent mode, ISO 400 and automatic white balance. All I had to do was tell Sam to "say cheese" which makes her smile for photos (most of the time!). I focused on Sam's face then recomposed to have her mother out of focus in the background. I really liked the blue colour of the background walls.

In photoshop I resized, increased contrast and saturation very slightly and finally applied unsharp mask 70% at 0.5 pixel radius. I would really appreciate it if any one could give me tips or advice on the use of this new prime lens. Thanks for stopping by.

Roxanne

dear Roxanne and Paul,
this contrasted composition is very interesting.
and two figures of Samantha's mouth and her mother's mouth are impressive.
of course Samantha's innocent smile is lovely, and her mother's smile in blurred back looks meaningful(sorry...),
but whole image is very cheerful.
thank you for your wonderful portrait of two,
Akihisa

Hi Paul and Roxy,
lovely expression and clarity from the new lens.
sharp and clear and your composition is nice with the blurred figure of the mom.
well composed portrait,

regards,
Foozi
