Cathedral nostalgia
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
When I look at this pic, I have so many different feelings..
felling that human life is passig by...
fear that ruthless time works only for itself
and its harvest we can see on the cementary...
There is something sad as well...
when we will pass away, the cathedral will still be there.. alone...
...only nostalgia will remain..
technical side of the picture:
As I started some kind photography course, all my group went to explore the CITY :o) and to practise night/nocturnal photography. I was trying all manual abilities of my camera, that i wasnt even aware of!!
great it was :o)
still is actually.
to few people that know my preferences: you will be surprised!
I haven`t actually done nothing to this picture. No sharpness, no brightness, no CONTRAST as well.. nothing!
it is just pure nostalgia here

I like the colours in the stone of the cathedral, very warm. The POV that you've used though has created a jumbled composition - the spire just visible in the background, the cross on the right which imposes itself into the picture and draws attention and the odd angle of the cathedral which doesn't really have any stand-out details. So a good chance to practice your night shooting but a picture which I think needed a little more thought before you clicked on the shutter release.
Thanks.....Mark
Hello Maya!
Long time no see... Glad to hear from you again ;o).
As to your "come back photo", I'm afraid I must agree with Mark: your composition looks too complex. We see too much here: lines that "scatter" our attention in different directions. I think you should have tried a crop to simplify and intensify your composition.
To me, the strongest element is the cross that gives the impression of stretching its "arms" towards the church. There is an interesting interaction between these two elements. The whole left part of the photo does not take part in this interaction (even detracts from it) and thus should be cropped away in my opinion.
As to the atmosphere: I like it. Quite mysterious, due to the colours and to the "ghost tower" high in the sky.
And, as usual, you put a most entertaining note ;o).
TFS & pozdrawiam!
Erik
