[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There are a lot of photos of Buckingham Fountain, it's probably one of the more heavily shot places in Chicago, if not the United States. I took both this HDR photograph and another (that I will post on TrekEarth) that turned out well - I have not seen a photograph of Buckingham like either one, so I feel safe that I can post them as my original work.

This was taken in the evening, not long before sunset, just after a summer cool front rolled through Chicago. I balanced the camera on my camera bag to steady it - not ideal, but it worked in this case. It was a wonderful evening to enjoy being outside, but it is rare that a summer evening is uncomfortable in the Windy City. It's one of my favorite places in the summer. We had been out and about the city all day, I didn't feel comfortable advertising my belongings with my old tripod, which, while a Manfrotto and very nice, is slightly heavy and bulky to be hauling around on the El. Now I have a great carbon fiber tripod - while it is not a Gitzo (it's a Feisol), it folds up super small and if I keep the bag over it, not real evident what it is. So, I'll be back to Buckingham Fountain some day for a better HDR shot. They are extremely hard to get right when you hand hold the camera.

I don't remember exactly the technical details of this photograph, but I do know I shot 5 different exposures from -1 to +1.

Anyway, this is not an extremely unusual shot of some far-away exotic place, just my rendition of another popular tourist destination!

Thanks for looking!

Hello Reed

beautiful perfect perspective, very brilliant capture, The exposure is so good allowing the orange lights to appear in the Fountain and variation of tones in this photo!

Excellent view, excellent handling!

tfs Reed

A beautiful fountain and nice pov. Maybe a shot in the blue hour just after the sun has gone down would heave been even better. The light in the bg has tended to wash the picture out a little. Nice composition of the fountain. TFS
warm regards
David

hehe, for me it is the al-bundy-fountain.*g* great to see it working and with water because
when i was there in 1994 it was dry and being renovated. i really like the shiny
hdr-processing, it really brings out the lights and colors and the background with the
sears tower and all the other magnificent high buildings is fantastic.
well done & best wishes from a rainy cologne, thor.
