Sunrise Through My Eye
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Here is a bizarre sculpture that is on display at Laumeier Sculpture Park, a place not far from my home. My wife and I noticed this thing on a walk the other day, I figured I would shoot it at sunrise since it faces just about due east. I got this shot right as the sun was coming up, you can see the sunrise reflected in the iris of the eyeball.
The Eye is a piece of modern art by Tony Tasset, an American artist born in 1960. It is made from fiberglass, resin, oil paint and steel.
It's too early in the year to get those first rays of sunlight on this piece, since the sun is coming up behind a stand of trees in front of it right now. Have to wait 'til later in the year. Too bad, since it was freakin' cold out there!
This was actually a test shot to align the camera, the whole thing turned out a deep blue since I had the camera set up for something else when I pressed the shutter release. Luckily, though, I shot it in RAW, and I was able to recover the colors and do a little selective post-processing in PS CS2. I just restored the eyeball and lightened up the background some, sharpened and added the frame and title. Turned out pretty cool, I think!
Anyway, I have a different shot you can see here if you are interested...
Thanks for looking and have a great Sunday! |

Pretty cool, Reed, I agreed, and pretty bizarre. The blue background makes this image even eerier. Good thing that you took this photo in winter, not in the summer. Do you why?
Informative note as usual.
