Orchids I
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
My Nikon D300 was pretty new still when I took a series of orchid photos at the Missouri Botanical Garden last year. They had an orchid show, which is actually going on right now, again. I used my kit lens (which I'm selling on eBay now) and hand held the camera for these shots. I followed the specifications set forth by Ken Rockwell on how he likes to set his D300 - in vivid mode with the saturation cranked. Very little post processing was done, just added the frame and title and sharpened a bit before I saved for under 300k.
I was impressed at the quality of shots I got then, I'm equally impressed today as I had to get a couple VR lenses so I could get the sharpness I desire today. I guess that one year of age made me a little shakier.
I didn't pay any attention to the type of orchids I shot, just to composition and focus points. It was basically a technical exercise, practice actually. But isn't it all practice? I haven't got to the point where I don't try hard to learn something new with every session. I'm seldom certain those shots are going to be what I expected them to be, and sometimes when I get done with them they are much more than I thought they might have been when I tripped that shutter. Like yesterday's post. It was a test shot, an alignment, but when I got it home I got inspired with it and turned it into my favorite photograph of the morning. Of course, no one else was as impressed with it as me, but that's not the point. I thought it was great!
Anyway, I'm going to showcase some flowers for a few days. I hope you enjoy them. Have a great week!

Very vivid indeed.I think focus should be on the front flower.
