[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Thanks to all of you who commented on Jamie’s black and white photograph yesterday. Today I wanted to post a different pose in color. The very shallow depth of field has some positive features in the blurring of the background but some limitations in the depth of field.

In this shot a layer mask was created and the path tool used to outline Jamie’s outlines. Using the clone tool a dark background was created which was almost black. Using the opacity slider the original background was brought forward by about 10%. This combination background looked more realistic than the solid dark color.

The shallow depth of field caused Jamie’s lower face to be out of focus while her eyes were in focus. To sharpen the lower part of her face a separate layer was used and sharpened then the Transition tool was used to blend the two layers. Her jaw line needed to be sharpened as well. This was accomplished using the Path tool to outline the jaw line and the Clone tool to clean up the blurred edges.

Jamie’s pupils and hair were sharpened using a separate layer mask.

I am sure that all these adjustments could have been made more efficiently with more knowledge of CS4..there are infinite levels to this program.

Scott Kelby has a book out on CS4 but I am only just getting started reading it. So far it is very helpful.

She has very pretty hair! Very nice shot Roger. She has classic model looks, your photo is beautiful. I love the DOF her..it isolates her and that makes it interesting. WHAT? in color???? NO BW?? Shocking! B-)
Nice work!

HI Roger
That is a lot of pp and since I have very limited knowledge of CS3 you lost me half way.
The result was worth it as the photo looks really good, the eyes are bright and the hair has a soft glow.

Hi Roger
For some reason I tend towar the B & W of yesterday. That is the proiblem with giving us comparison. The buttons are a problem for me here as well as the DOF. Both are top notch but I'll stick with yesterdays.

Hi Roger
The depth of field is perfect as the the eyes sees what matters most in the photo. Nothing distracting. The lighter foreground face and beautiful hair tone sets well against darker background. Well done
