I took this photo from Maraetai Beach, Auckland. Maraetai is located 4km from Beachlands and is a perfect place to swim, have a picnic, fish, or just walk the beaches. There are two large wharfs along the beach, and a large boat ramp which also allows access to a smaller beach on the other side.

The Maori name "Maraetai" means "meeting place by the sea" and certainly still lives up to it’s name, particularly in the summer months.

Maraetai is basically a stone’s throw away from Omana Beach which sits on the same shoreline. Both beaches look towards the Pacific Ocean and offer awesome views from Auckland City to the Coromandel Ranges.

Swimming is safe at both Omana and Maraetai, with grassed verges suitable for picnicing and relaxing on. There is a large carpark and a grassed area with a large children's playground and also a boat ramp as I mentioned earlier beside the Maraetai Beach Boating Club.

Maraetai's residents do not use city mains water and instead must use water tanks. Many residents prefer it to be kept this way to maintain the town's rural aspect. The area has a school, pre-schools, a service station, restaurants/cafes, dairies, takeaway foods, a small art gallery, a very active boating club, and a very valued volunteer Coastguard/Sea Rescue Organisation.

Before reaching Omana / Maraetai you pass Te Puru Park, which also faces north and has its own beach. Although the waves are rougher than Maraetai and Omana, this is another very safe place to swim when the tide allows, and the park offers excellent parking, a children’s playground, and skateboard ramp (half pipe).

There are many other places in the area to visit while you’re there, so you’d definitely be able to make a day of it. Feel free to check out my other photo of Maraetai here.

Thanks for viewing.

Hi Scott,
Wonderful beach shot with nicely saturatd colours and perfect clarity. I really like the fresh green tones of the vegetation and the inclusion of seagulls add much to the composition. Good job! TFS!
Greetings,
Kristof

Nice rule of 3rd's Scott, I like the gulls , looks like they are fish spotting. Excellent detail and natural colours, well photographed, keep up the good work Mr.

Nice! I know this area well, we often drive through on a Sunday afternoon after grabbing lunch at the bakery in Beachlands. Lovely well balanced shot, in terms of colours as well as composition. The gulls in the corner are just awesome, lol a little trio of trouble coming to steal your fish n chips =P.

Very nicely done Scott!

Cadi

I thought Maraetai meant 'my right eye'!!! Just kidding...

This is a nice corner of the beach - reminds me on Waiheke - so peaceful and protected too.

Well done on your compo Scott, and the colours and details too

Another lovely spot Scott. Clarity and color are fantastic. .. and as everyone else has said, the gulls are a bonus in the shot. Great job.

Hi,

I particularly like the contrasting colours and even more so the serenity this scene portrays. That water looks very inviting :-)
