This is the electric sign hanging from the facade of a restaurant and entertainment venue called "Blueberry Hill" in the Delmar Loop, University City, Missouri. This restaurant is a really popular hangout for students and tourists, it also hosts various music acts and has a veritable museum of trivial items that you can browse while you are waiting for a table or a show to start. It is truly a place that is 100% St. Louis. I showed you some of the inside with one of my Blues Monday shots. We saw veteran blues harp player Charlie Musselwhite there some years ago.

We went to "The Loop" to get pizza at a place called "Pi", or actually the symbol for Pi. It's a play on words AND numbers... The pizza was great, but we ate too much so decided to walk up and down Delmar Boulevard (recently dubbed Barack Obama Boulevard, due to Delmar historically being recognized as a racial boundary in St. Louis). It was nearing sunset and the light was fantastic. I knew I could get some colorful shots before it went down and then have an hour of deep blue sky to play with, too.

This sign is a caricature of a couple dancing, they have stylized '50's vintage clothing and the speech bubble says "I Found My Thrill", a homage to the song by Fats Domino. It is an interesting sign by itself, perhaps I will post a different shot of this place later so you can see that. The sun was going down behind it and even with that scraggly tree next to it I liked the image it gave, so I shot this one. I left most of the tree in the shot because it would take me months to clone it out and make it look right, but I did clone out some electrical wires and branches that directly interfered with the sign. I also changed the white balance to Shade, which enhanced the sunny yellow color and gave a better silhouette. RAW file processed first in DxO Pro then imported to PS CS2 for the cloning out of the wires and such, framing, re-sizing and sharpening. In that order, too.

I thought it made a fairly eye-catching image! More to come from this area later this week.

Very eye catching Reed! I like this silhouette! The only thing I might would have done is run a purple fringe fix. See the top of the "flying saucer" over their heads...there is a bit of fringe, can be EASILY removed in your program! Good job!

Hello Reed,

You succeeded to creat a silhouette which one surely notice. The red-yellow cast at the back and the framing make this a pleasant shot.
Well done. Regards.

Francis Xavier

Edward
