I took this shot when I was at Bastion Point in Auckland. This scene is opposite the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial site and the grass goes up in several ‘waves’, with a bright garden and a solid hedge as the backdrop. You can just make out a discrete park bench on the far left of the photo.

The large tree in the background is a Pine tree, and can live up to 100–1,000 years. They’re great in wintertime to get pinecones to use in the fireplace too.

It’s only a few minutes from Mission Bay and the views from the hills look right over Auckland City and the Waitemata Harbour towards the Sky Tower.

There are always alot of buses full of tourists pulling up and cameras clicking everywhere. With panoramic views across the city I can see why, the gardens and the memorial are just as popular too.

Thanks for viewing.

Hello Scott,
Wow, that's very colourful, really vibrant picture! The saturation of the different colours is perfect, moreover, the sharpness and clarity of the shot add more impact. Beautful composition, awsome natural scene. Thanks for sharing this view! Have a nice wekkend!
Greetings,
Kristof

Hi Scott,

Vibrant colours and great use of layers in this composition, i.e. The turf border, border, and hedge. Level and sharp, well done Scott.

Regards and tfs,
Martyn

Hello Scott! Central composition. Nice landscape. Very nice light and colours. Original take. Well done!

Hi Scott

I like the horizontal layering, broken only by the vertical pine tree. I would add gaussian blur to the sky, to mask the grain. Good colour & sharpness. Tfs!

great composition with lovely colors, light and shades.I congratulate for such a wonderful post.cheers

Hi Scott... Nice colourful image... but that "tree"..its too centred my friend.. would have been better if you had of placed it to the right or left of the image(rule of thirds)..for better impact. Nice layered effect here.

Hi Scott
wonderful image with layers.
beautiful colors.
the vertical tree, braking the horizontal line, pointing to the sky, adds interest to the image.

Nice work. Very powerful. Rules are made to be broken - and by breaking the rules of composition this works very well indeed, with central placement of the bisecting horizontal, and the vertical of the tree.
Strong colours, good light!

Hello Scott, good morning!

Excellent point of view
fantastic perspective
Good sharpness and wonderful landscape!
Well done
regards
Maria

Well maybe rules are made to be broken, but I agree with Dawn - would have been more impactful with the tree to one side or t'other! I've done a little workshop just for the heck of it. I would have left even more negative space, but this was all I had to work with. Hope you don't mind Scott :)
Still a nice colorful shot, with good layers and bright vivid colors.

Hi Scott,
this is a picturesque shot,
like a colorful flag of any beautiful country...
the central dark green fence is very effective to show us this image more bright and cheerful.
the flowers of red, pink and white look quite like spray of the coming wave on the shore, and the pine tree looks a sailboat on the sea.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hi Scott,

Hi Scott,

Wonderful colourful capture. I am so glad that you didn't stick to the rule of thirds LOL. Must be the "rebel" in you? LOL....great capture of layers and lines. I see the picnic basket and blanket is missing :P
