Hello Oliver
and (a bit late) welcome to TL.
I have always found portraits to be fascinating, because they allow us to get to know people and their lives better. This is quite good image of your father, but I believe that B/W would be better choice for this photo.
I have done WS on your image. I hope you don't mind.
Have a nice evening,
Stasa
Thank you for sharing this portrait of your father with us, Oliver.
A very natural looking shot, with nicely diffuse light and well managed DOF with such a wide aperture. The background is suitably neutral.
Nice work

Frankly I can't fully agree with Stasa, though she is a good photographer.
She fails to explain why black and white "would be a better choice" for this particular photograph. Do you mean, that with a monochrome image one could overemphasize his old age than actually he is? Well, this could be done-and had been done in the workshop version-through increasing the sharpness.
There are photographs on this site, where the workshop version is far better than the original. In this case however, I must frankly admit that the original fairs better.
Having said that, the image has its short comings in the way it was composed. Yet,as far as I gathered, a beginner in the field of digital photography had tried to portray his love and gratitude to his father - which is the subject matter- and that overrides those shortcomings.
Thanks for sharing,
Sand
