[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Pohutukawa flowers from November to January with a peak in mid to late December (the southern hemisphere summer), with brilliant crimson flowers covering the tree, hence the nickname New Zealand Christmas Tree.

There is variation between individual trees in the timing of flowering, and in the shade and brightness of the flowers.
This was shot in early December at North Head, overlooking Auckland City. A great reminder of our long, hot summer!

Beautiful flowers, rich colour and well captured. I like the way you've composed this with a view of downtown Auckland in the BG, gives placement to the shot..

The actual picture quality doesn't look brilliant considering you took this with a D50 - I'm wondering if you over sharpened a bit too much?

Nice contribution to the theme. Image is sharp, well exposed with saturated colors. The small part of road seems to bring us to the city in the BG. Nice work and TFS.

Merry Christmas!! I bought a postcard in Wellington a few weeks back taken of this tree (I think) The BG was very similar!!! definitely Auckland.
The colours look very bright - maybe a bit too saturated?? Or, as you said, too much Shadows/highlights - sorry, but it doesn't look quite right (IMO)...

This wonderful Pohutukawa gives me a warm memory of NZ! Great shot, and a fine well balanced composition with AKL in the background. The colours look a bit unnatural (over saturated) though. Made a WS to show what I mean. Nevertheless a fine posting Pat!
