Garden Poppies

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The strange almost "posterised" effect to be seen on the petals of the poppies is not due to any Post Processing.
This shot was taken with the sun very low on the left. The striped effect on the right hand petal of the central flower is due to the shadow cast by the petal on the left. The fact that there was a polarising filter on the lens may also be to some degree responsible for the resulting image.
Taken as JPEG. Slight adjustment to Levels, Curves, Saturation and Sharpness in PS 7. |

Hello Peter,a very vivid shot of the poppies;it is amazing how the sunlight has enhanced their colour.
I like the composition with the contrasting textures.I never tire of seeing poppies, they are so bright and cheerful.
Tfs, regards Jean.

hello Peter,
the light has given these poppies a great graphical feel. If you hadn't said that this wasn't created by PP work then I would certainly assumed that to be the case. But I like it better because it is straight out of the can, so to speak. And poppies are a great favourite of mine.

Hello, Peter.
Now this is very interesting indeed. I agree this has a "posterised" effect but I'm just wondering how this has come about.
Because of the low and bright sun, I presume there was very considerable contrast here with very bright highlights and very dark shadows but it doesn't appear like that although the very edges of some of the petals do look overexposed in places. I don't really know. I wonder if it might be down to some feature of the Fuji sensor which, I believe, works slightly differently to those on other cameras?
No matter. This is a fine picture, sharp and detailed as usual, and with fine dramatic colours. An interesting poser as well!
Kind Regards,
John.
