"The problem"

I think several problems, actually. The sky is washed out, the top corner of the building is cropped off, there is a distracting sliver of a pole (lamppost?) in the top left and the traffic light obscures a lot of one of the most interesting features of the building - the fire escape. General exposure and sharpness also problems.

I think it's ironic that you'd post a horrible photo like this and try to give yourself an excuse by calling a city in beautiful southern California a piece of crap.
You can find old worn out run down buildings in any city that is alive. I think the problem is that you overexposed the sky, and didn't have enough wide enough lens to correctly portray this building.
Some actually find good photo-ops in photo like this. It's not about the buildings on TrekLens, it's about the photography and your job was to make it interesting enough for us viewers to want to spend time with, to enjoy. I can't see any other reason to post a photo on TrekLens than to seek to improve. Seems like you just did this to dump a photo.
No offense but insulting a living-breathing city like LA while you live in "stuffy" ole Canada doesn't make sense!

I think that you lacked some respect on this one and you forgot that your remarks could hurt somebody.
I have seen your pictures and I know that you can show better skills and quality in your work.
