A quick 24 hours in Auckland - tiring, but managed the energy to get down to the harbour and take a few 'blue hour' shots.. It's a beautiful area, expecially to watch the sunset..

It's a crowded scene I know - lots to see. A single HDR with 2 extra exposures made. One at +1.5 EV and the other at 0.7 EV and the 3 merged in HDR (again).

30 seconds at f18, ISO100 and +0.3EV

Hi David! I like the chaos of the scene, the overall exposure and the fact you are doing pp work that is beyond me. All that is good :-)

But for this shot I just can't get over the amount of blur - caused by the movement of the boats on water, I know, but still. I find the boat and its sign in the front right to be especially distracting but I think even overall the sharpness isn't great - apart from the railing in the front left.

I'm not bothered by the cut-off masts and there are a lot of good points as I said - but the blur doesn;t work for me. Sorry fella :-(

Ohhhh, HDR! I get it!
There is indeed a lot to see here! The sharpness of the buidings, the colours and the lights, but I agree with "Kilted-Arab", the blurry boat at the front and the masts through the whole picture, makes it less beautiful...

But the effect of the HDR is great! Pleace give it another try here!!

Very nice night-life photo David, a pity about the blur from the motion of the bobbing boats but that's inevitable. In a way it adds to the busyness of this scene. Awesome colours, but the clarity is what I like the most - seems extremely sharp and clear. Well done.

TFS,
Scott.

Hello David

Nice capture of bussy hour, i like the warmthness of light. i dont mind blur at all :)

Very natural HDR work. There's a lady on some other site who do dramatic HDRs. I call her Queen of HDR :)
Here is the Link (http://isik5.deviantart.com/) have a look :)

Hi David,
I really like that night picture, you've managed very well to catch the night and the lights, as well as the busy harbour! I really need to learn how to use that HDR it seems to make some great shots!
well done.

Hi David

So you've been to Een Zud! Maybe a shorter exposure time, to avoid the boats rocking in the water? Or a much longer exposure, to really heighten the effect? But aside from minor nitpicking, a well composed image, with superb colour, saturation & sharpness. Lots of interesting details to explore. Tfs!

Hi David !

I know that the blur is not your fault but I'm not sure if I like it. I love this busy&colorful scene

thnaks,
v

I see a little advertising for your airline down there on the boats (that's your airline right?).
Yeah, this is an interesting one ... very busy as you said, your eye doesn't quite know where to land, but still I like the blue hour colors, the lights on the buildings, the inclusion of the railing (left). The blurred boat, bottom right was likely the first thing that my eye was drawn to, but hmmm, yeah overall, I still like it.

Hi David,
as you say it's a crowded scene but that's what that location is & you have presented that well,I'm not sure about the boats lettering lower left corner, is that due to the technique used for this HDR image, as I see that the other letters on the other boats are clear?I do like the detail & clarity of the architecture,no doubt about the first building being a place for fun:)

What a nice reminder for me and I saw a lot of changes here since 1995. The contrast is great and the composition well done. Perfect blue hour picture.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi David, I like the crowded scene! I'm a city girl at heart, so I know there are crowds of friendly people having fun somewhere in the shot! :) I wish the writing on the boats could have been sharp, but with 30 second exposure, kind of hard to do. As usual, great HDR work David! I like the golden tones throughout the scene. Looks like a fun place to visit. :) Lisa

Hi David

Nice shot of the harbour area, presume the "Fly Emirates" had nothing to do with the composition.
First time I was in NZ was about 10 years ago just as this area was getting redeveloped for the America's Cup.
Great details once again from the blue hour.
TFS

Regards Derek

Hello David.
Notting wrong with : Flying Emirates", can read it, haha
For Auckland whales I need more time.!
The further away buildings are perfect sharp, but what happened to the close by scene ? Was the boat dancing on the waves, by seeing the people dancing behind the glass?
Still good work on it.
Cheers from Jan

Hell of a night scene. And I like the blurred boats too, contrasting with the sharp focus on the rest of the image. Nice yellowish lights on the buildings.
Great job, TFS
Robert

HI David...I like your shots...very distinctive and original...excellent job.

Roger

Hi David,
At first sight a great image, but unfortunately a bit blurry. Nonetheless like this chaotic picture which brings back fine memories. One of the American cup boats you captured here I sailed on. So as far as I'm concerned, full smilies, in contradictionary of the grumpy Kilted Scotsman ;-)
Hans

Hello David!
How you can have so sharp image??? Which program do you use?
I love the quality in your pictures!
Great colours, ligth, perspective here!
Best regards!
Lili

Wow...this is why you are one of my most FAV photographers! The photos are always dramatic, lots of color! The blur of the boat really doesn't bother me that much. I like a little motion especially around the water! Great shot!

Mmmmmm...blur or not..Id like to see this picture pure from visual point of vieuw, there soooo much to see, without beeing a mess,no David,I can dream away into the scenery, good stuff.
Technical perfection is no garantea for a plesant picture, this one certainly is!
I remeber i was in Perth in 86 during the Americas cup,it was great.
