Getting up close

One of the most challenging and exciting ways to shoot a waterfalls is getting really close to it. The water sprays are always a challenge to handle.

For this I had to wade a strong stream, use my tripod as support. A dry bag is indispensable at this point, although I braved with it without one, left my dry bag behind :).

Instead I had my camera already mounted on a tripod, with the filters on, and with preset shutter speed and aperture. This way I only have to consider the composition. You may wrap your camera in clear plastic bag for added protection. What I used at that time was just a plain scarf my wife brought along.

What happened next was a cycle of:

1. Remove cover
2. Compose and shoot.
3. Clean filters of water droplets, put cover on.
4. Check shot
5. Change POV
6. Goto step 1

beautiful scene! i like the inclusion of the stones in the foreground and shutter speed. nice work!

Great work, am enjoying your waterfall series, it is interesting to see the waterfalls in your part of the world and how they compare to ours, I enjoy photographing waterfalls and have a few in my gallery. What type of ND Filter do you use?

Hi Allan,
Awesome shot, nicely composed and exposed. So sharp too. I want this lens - both my brother (WhiteKnight) and brother-in-law have this lens. I reckon its pretty cool.
A big green smiley for you, even if you don't need it ;-)
Regards,
Phil
