Subway Line 5

Departure: Tiantongyuanbei
Terminal: Songjiazhuang
Length: 27.665 km (17.19 miles)
Number of Stops: 23
One-way runtime: about 49 minutes
Map color: purple

As one of the lines under construction for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Subway Line 5 has been in operation since October 7, 2007. It runs between the northern and southern areas of Beijing City, and is the first subway line in Beijing to introduce the safety door throughout the whole line.

The trains of this line are quite different from that of the other existent subway lines of Beijing. All trains of this line are new and air-conditioned ones. Each train has 8 LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) televisions which are different from the bus-televisions. Passengers can enjoy TV programs and will soon be able to watch the Olympic Games live in 2008. Eight urban public transport maps are displayed in the train, offering clear traffic lines. By using the intelligent information inquiry system in any station on this line, you can find exact information about transfers to public buses, and information about the weather, bulletins, and the timetable of this line.

Passengers can transfer to Subway Line 1 from this line at Dongdan Station, and transfer to Subway Line 2 in Chongwenmen Stations and Yonghegong Station. You can transfer to Subway Line 13 from Lishuiqiao Station in which is to the north of this line. Every station on this line has been installed a lift for the disabled.
