Happy Bluesday Morning!

Got back from Chicago Sunday night, too tired to do much of anything but go to work and get stuff caught up here yesterday, so I'm finally getting back in the swing of things. Since I missed my Monday Blues shot, I thought I would make up for it on Bluesday, er I mean Tuesday...

This is a close-up of Cedric Burnside, part of the two-man wrecking crew of Cedric Burnside & Lightnin' Malcolm. This is North Mississippi blues, raw and energetic.

Cedric not only plays the drums, he is also a singer, a songwriter and an impetus for the continuation of the North Mississippi Hill Country sound.

He's singing in this photograph, I don't know how a drummer can sing at the same time he is drumming - I mean, he's already moving both hands and both feet, constantly, keeping the rhythm of the music - you really have to be able to multi-task to do that!

This was taken at the Beale St. Music Festival at Memphis in May, 2009. I shot it with my 70 - 300mm VR lens in low light at a high ISO in RAW. I used some noise reduction, unsharp mask, cropped a bit, added a frame and title, re-sized for TL and unsharp masked a little more. Voila! Great concert image!

Of course, I have to thank my wife for helping me smuggle in the Nikon to this festival - they consider any camera with a removable lens to be a professional camera, and therefor not allowed. Strangely, they did nothing regarding folks with cell phones and point n' shoot cameras shooting entire sequences of the acts. So I don't feel too bad about breaking the rules. I just wish I didn't have to!

Have a great Tuesday and the rest of your week. It's a short work week for those of us in the US due to our country's birthday celebration on July 4!

Hi Reed

I like photos of players in act!

I like the moment and the good capture although all the circumstances you did..
I was a drummer player too with some friends in a band and I can tell you it's a multi tasking indeed :)
I like the light and colors of it and the effort of the drummer..
I like the portrait composition also.

Hola Reed!
Another really good one in the series!! I'm with you .. I'd have a hard enough time just
keeping the rhythm, let along sing at the same time ... talented guy!!
Love the purple cast over the shot here ,, and the green from the spot lights on the right. Nice action captured. It's hard to get good shots without a mic in front of their faces, but you've positioned yourself perfectly!
Good job Reed
Trudy
Our Canada Day is tomorrow .. July 1st. So you do you get a stat. holiday on friday because July 4th falls on Saturday?

Look up! I'm standing on your head! HAHA! This is nice, really cool shot with the purple light. He is in motion, but you caught him pretty sharp Reed! I also was a concert camera smuggler...but these days they SEARCH...like inside the purse and all that. Oh well.... Nice colorful shot, your clarity is nice!
B-)
