Something a little different. My friend's son. This was taken under a shelter with bright sun in background. I decided to make it black and white. Added a little contrast, darkened a tad, resize and sharpened for upload.

Comments, critiques, and workshops are very much appreciated. Lisa

I like the mood here. I'm a little worried over the bright space to the left...it seems to distract away from the little boy. I might would have cropped vertically and done a fill flash on his face. Let me see if I can do Ws!

very fine, beautifully captured, interesting compo. I like how you play with the white space balancing the composition. Love janos

Hello Lisa,
You have captured a happy portrait of your friend's son, and a way to make this image more pleasing would be to purchase a soft focus filter that softens the hard edges and blemishes from your model's face. Other than that, excellent moment caught by yourself...
Happy 4th,
Steve

Hi Lisa !

Superb portrait we present today.
Beautifully made and played.
Have a beautiful evening,
Adrian

Interesting style but I like how you've done the pp here Lisa. Good idea to boost the contrast and whiten the BG.. It's an interesting composition too but I like it!

Cheers
David

Hi, Lisa -
Great candid portrait - creative choice to crop so only part of the parent's face is showing, but all of the boy's. He's got a genuine and sunny expression. You managed the light on his face well. Good choice to convert to b&w to handled the bright background.

Hi Lisa,
I like the feel of this, you captured the emotion of the moment quite well. I think the BW treatment is quite good, I think Linda's correct, a bit too much white space on the left, and that cute little face would be even cuter with a bit more light on it--maybe not flash levels of light, but just some loss of shadow--but still, overall, a very nice and effective shot.
Tried a little quick WS to, perhaps, better explain my point.
Thanks,
Wilt
