Some black and white goodness today.

All along the Wellington waterfront are these metal balls. They're made of two halves and tilted at a 20 degree angle, with lights inside.

In this photo I wanted to make them look menacing, kind of like alien eggs starting to hatch. Black and white seemed to make it look more threatening.

(OK, I admit to "assisting" the contrast slightly in the foreground, to get the surface texture of the concrete)

This was taken on the same full-moon night as my last two city shots.

Canon 50D / 10-22 lens @ 16mm, 20 sec exposure (with tripod) and shot RAW.

The night I shot this the moon was full, there was not a breath of wind, the sky was clear and there was an eerie calm and silence. Maybe that's what got my imagination going about the space-balls!

Hi, Adam -
Outstanding creepy futuristic mood. Very sharp details and great contrast (and there is nothing wrong whatsoever with a bit of PP work you did to enhance it). The city skyline looks great in the background. I like your choices of b&w (although I wonder what it looked like in color - maybe you could post a WS?) and portrait format. Good imagination to see the potential of this shot.

Hi Adam

very nice capature I to would have liked to see this one in colour
but still the detail is spot on very nice work Adam.

Hi Adam,

I like your angle on this - awesome play with light and contrast on these harbouside metal balls. Good creativity and well formatted. I'll have to check these out next time I'm down in Wellington. TFS.

Hi Adam,
Excellent photo with a credible fiction movie mood! The B&W is very appropriated for this kind of image
You managed so well the light to enhance the halo surrounding the "alien eggs". This is clear, sharp, creative and very well composed. Bravo! Annie
