Another from the same night shoot as the last few.

The water was so still it wasn't even lapping at the edge. Like a piece of glass...

despite being in the middle of the city, when I was out on this shoot I could have been the only person on Earth.

I hope that the black and white has managed to capture something of that foreboding sense of solitude.

Canon EOS 50D with the 10-22 lens at full length (22mm). 20 seconds on the tripod. Shot raw, just a bit of tonal adjustment in CS4 to produce what you see here.

Hi Adam
I love B&W photography, especially shots with lots to look at and cityscapes are perfect, especially at night.
One minor point for me on this shot though is that the image appears to slope down slightly to the left, perhaps a slight straightening of the horizon and then the framing would have made this great shot perfect.

Nicely constructed shot, effectively using light and shadow and the b&w treatment to create mood in a powerful way - especially that sense of solitude, the good old film noir detective-in-an-overcoat kind of ambience. Speaking of which - this is almost a case for adding grain for effect? Certainly the cinematic framing assists that.
