Elvis Never Left The Building
August 16, is the 32nd anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death at his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tenn. at the age of 42.
The King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley, spent the eight years before his death in 1977 performing in the Hilton's large showroom. The hotel, which was then called International, is well known for being home to Elvis Presley's fun filled performances during the last eight years of his era. This a bronze statue of the king himself just off the main entrance.
Elvis Presley performed in 837 consecutive sold out shows at the Las Vegas Hilton Casino
In 1956, Elvis made his Vegas debut at the recently shuttered New Frontier Hotel. You gotta love some of the reviews, which called Elvis "a bore," and said his musical sound was "uncouth." Talk about having your finger on the pulse of popular culture
On July 31, 1969, Elvis opened a four-week, 57-show engagement at the International Hotel, which is now the Las Vegas Hilton. This launched the King's comeback and he'd return to Vegas countless times before his death on Aug. 16, 1977. |
