Fight!

We spent an afternoon in Croatia with my girlfriend this weekend, where we visited this lake by the Drava river. A beautiful place full of birds, damselflies, dragonflies etc. It was so good to be there photographing..

After an hour of shooting gulls and mallards, something happened that drew many of the gulls in one direction and a big fight started. I guess those two at the bottom found some food that the others wanted too. For a couple of minutes I was shooting countinously to catch the best moments of the action. I selected one to post here and one for TN (Start oif the fight).

I had luck with lighting, at ISO400 I could close down to f/10 on my tele while keeping 1/800. The slowest I can manage is 1/320 even on monopod with this heavyweight lens but for an action like this it wouldn't have been fast enough I think. But I could keep the pace while keep more than only 1-2 birds in the dof.

Hi Andor,
Another fantastic shot. The fast shutter speed of 1/800s has frozen the action perfectly, with f/10 giving a nice shallow DOF. I like the exposure here, such easy birds to overexpose but it all seems balanced throughout. I must add you to my favourites so I don't miss anymore shots from you. Well done with this one.

Hello Andor,

This shot has been very cleverly executed.
You have used a fast shutter speed to capture the birds in action, with beautiful sharp focus; the birds are suspended in time and place!
Good dof to kive a fine bokeh which sets the context of the shot.
