Frontal

I always wanted a frontal shot of a bee or anything else with "big" eyes, this time I managed to take a picture like that. Although if I had the lens for it I'd certainly get closer to get only the head in the shot. Anyway, regarding my technical limitations I reached what I wanted.

The result is not the best I think, the bee is OK with me but the flower got oe'd and over flashed. But that not being the primary subject I decieded to post it anyway. I like the reflections in the eyes so much, that's why I long for a closer shot..

Taken in RAW as always, square cropped and adjusted some things in Lightroom, then exported to The Gimp to resize, frame, sharpen and remove bg noise.

Here I feel the signs of flash are too much (compared to my previous post) but hope You'll still find it ok.

Hello Andor,

This is a fine macro capturing amazing details of the head, body and textures.
The dof really focusses attention on the insect but makes the b/g an interesting addition.

Hi Andor,

Superb frontal macro of the bee. You've already critiqued the photo better than I would have, and I certainly understand equipment limitations. Nevertheless, the bee's head is nicely focussed, with a nice smooth background. TFS.

Yes you were successful in capturing the bee's compound eyes but I think the highlight is its piercing proboscis. Super pretty. The colors are intense and vivid, the image is sharp. Regards.
