Hi Alex
A wonderful capture of the white toned sculptures / busts, with good use of a shallow fg dof. Excellent lighting. They look like Chess Pieces! Tfs!
A real nice view on this impressive line up Alex.
Quite some important people standing there in a row...
I really like the angle you show here with Nostradamus in the front and some more statues in the background.
Now, if you would want a statue like Nostradamus' to come out more, in this case you could turn your F-number to 3.5 or a tad higher (a smaller number means a larger opening in your diafragm). A faster shutterspeed would be needed, maybe even 1/1000!
This would blur the background even more, but be careful!
When your subject in the foreground has much depth you are likely to get unsharp areas in that as well.
All in all it takes quite a bit of practice to get it right, but it really is very nice to play with these buttons and to see what the result is.
A nice way to practice this is on your kitchen table (if there is enough light!)
just put three small objects of the same size on the table in a row one in front, one in the middle, one in the background, about 15cm apart.
Then put your camera on the tripod and start playing with the F numbers. You can set the camera to "A". This way you can choose the aperture, the camera sets the shutterspeed for you.
Concentrate on the object closest to you all the time and see what the result is in the end. You'll be surprised about the sharpness when the aperture is higher (smaller diafragm).
You will learn to control the sharpness (or the blur) of the objects in the background of your pictures.
I sure hope you will try this! Believe me, it's fun!
Cheers,
Anneke
