Another example of post work to create an artistic result.

I was originally going to try this with my regular model Diana, but when she cancelled, I called on our friends' daughter Gia.

She did a great job.

This shot is a composite of two images.

The photographs:

Set the camera on a tripod, setting exposure and composition with Gia leaning through the picture-frame (which was held by her sister.) I took a few shots, then had Gia and her sister move out of shot. I switched focus to manual so that the background foliage remained out-of-focus, and took another couple of frames.

The post work:

Opened original (Gia) image. Pasted the empty foliage shot as a new layer over Gia. Used polygon tool to create a selection around the areas I wanted to hide, then applied Layer Mask and inverted. Used brush tool to soften the edges of the mask in places, so that the two shots blended seamlessly.

Applied some skin retouching also. Flattened image, resised, sharpened.

Hi REw,
great PP work.Outstanding compo.Well done.TFS.Necla.

I think it's not only her that did a great job, you also did something outstanding. So it's a nice teamwork execution to produce this result amongst you, Gia and her sister.
Well done Rew...
The result is interesting and inspiring.
Yopie

Hi Rew !

It's great and I like your creativity and skills but I think that it will be better if the frame was on the same orientation with the BG. Like she is escaping from that BG and that's why we don't see her body.
Or, if you want that the frame only to separate the sharp from unsharp then it's nice this angle but we must see Diana's body on the left of the frame but blurred as the BG.
What do you think ?

Wow Rew what a splendid framing idea-this one literally jumps out of the screen! Great natural expression and good exposure control. Looks like a scene out of Casper...Nice one mate.

cheers,

Dilshan

Hi REW,
Great job, the following description of serious attention. I think this is when the computer help people to tap. Congrats Sandor

Hi Rew,

I'm really surprised to find such a kind of shot in your gallery...you like the research as me. Well, I find it greatly performed, the gesture is really natural, so also the model should receive the green smile..
The BG is the real one or you pasted it too?

ciao

M

hello rew,

well what can i say. this is as good as it can get. the idea of an 'emerging girl from an ethereal window' is just great. i wish to learn about this kind of pp too.

have a great evening~

Haha, good one Rew. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. Very interesting idea, and well executed. Interesting explanation. I was thinking that it might have more appeal for me if the frame ... and Gia, were facing a little more towards the camera.
Great idea .. keep up the good work.
Trudy

Hi Rew,

Great concept, it looks like she's emerging from an alternate universe. Excellent PP work. I like some of the other critiques posted on this, and agree that tilting the frame a bit more to the camera might help some.

Best regards,
Werner

With a large smile on my face I have read your note and look at the photo several times. Wonderful work. Very creative. Beautiful girl. TFS

Hi Rew,
I started putting together my post yesterday and only finalised it tonight - I seen yours earlier in the day and thought they were similarly put together, yours a bit more realistic tho. Expert processing and brilliant notes. TFS

Very creative photo and very well done. A good experience and a good happy surprise.

Hi Rew,
Freakishly cool PP work, very different and unique. The crop lines look so natural, almost impossible to tell that it has been edited. Great job with the focus too, her expression seems to suit the scene nicely. Well done.

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Rew...this is very original and artistic....It is nice to try new things..keeps us interested in photography....anyway good work on the PP....

Hi Rew, You have created a mysterious photo here, the PP work is excellent and it comes together well. The bokoh effect makes the lady stand out well too. TFS. Murray.

Hi Rew,
Excellent idea, well executed too. It funny but with the serious expresion of Diana's face. Like the DOF createds by the blurred background creating a nice depth! Great PP work here Rew, it's a surprizing "Rewshearer" production :-)
Hans

Absolutely top work Rew!! 11 out of 10 for this one...

Sharpness

Bom dia Rew,
Awesome PPW very well done.
And many thanks for the How-to.
Congratulations,
Raimundo

Hi Rew

Good pp work, although I'd sharpen around the eyes & face , which appear a little soft. A superb concept with the woman emerging fromn the frame, & well executed. Tfs!

Bonjour Rew,

That's an interesting image. It brings back the magical world as if we could travel time and space true magic windows. Almost as real as "SG-1". I imagine you've done that with some kind of Blue BG technic. Very well done, and TFS.

Hi Rew,
This would be another good interpretation of Alice's adventures in Wonderland!
Very nicely done!
I like the idea and the clever work you did on the background with the blend of exposuure. This mix of blur and sharpness emphasizes the fairy tale impression.
Excellent and artistic work! Annie

Wow Rew, this is a very creative shot ever. I love it. Well done. Sothy

Hello Rew,

I love to see exciting pp work alongside fine photography. That is what makes this site so exciting!
I love what you have achieved here!
You have placed Gia so well in the frame. (No pun intended!) She co-incides nicely with the gap in the bush so there is quite an illusion of her emerging from the bush.

I read your notes carefully and tried to follow them in my head. However, I only have PSE6 and don't appear to have the Layer Mask command. I know with these programs, there is usually more than one way to implement most commands. I will see if the Internet can help!

Have a great day,
Bev :-)

Hi Rew
Lovely work! Her portrait is beautiful and the PP is nice.
Now I thing it is missing something, the frame is just flying around so maybe an easel or something would be nice.
Have a great day
David

Hi Rew,
Sometimes we find love so unexpectantly and then its gone or stays forever, well I am sure you know what i mean. This is quite some PP work which i wish i could do let alone understand.Brilliant work and hope to see more.

Olá Rew,

Quanto tempo, ainda lembra de mim?

Hello Rew.
Good looking result!
Well managed procesing!
Very original idea.

I like this!, congrats!

For its "genre" I find this pretty well done. Glad to see you've been experimenting, with more PP testing.

Interesting subject...well handled.

As for the shooting itself. Exposure and contrast are good. Colors balance also. Nice convincing perspective and angles.

Nice work and well handled Rew.

Cheers

Rew,

Seamless integration of two images, quite difficult without careful planning of the shot. Excellent PP work and creativity.

I like this!! It makes you stare at it, to see how it was done! Your models always seem to cooperate well for you! Nice pp work, you have a great imagination!

Hello Rew,
Definitely better than the "Jung Mi IV" experiment, at least in my opinion. It seems to me that you flawlessly carried out the layering work. No imperfection to be seen and the depth of field really works well here. Is it easier to do this with a coloured background than with a plain white one, that must be quite "revealing"?
Beyond these technical aspects, I'm just still struggling a little with the "deeper sense" to give to this picture, but that might be just me ;o).
TFS & kind regards,
Erik

Hi Rew

Fantastic post processing with almost no footprint of your edit
Great idea emerging the subject out of the frame against outdoor greenary
It would be better if you find something to lean on for the frame, here it look like floating

Good creativity indeed :)
