The downstream wall of the massive Bratsk Reservoir, (over 4 km long), across the Angara River, that begins in Lake Baikal, several hundred kilometres upstream & south of here. Weather wasn't the best, but I was just grateful it wasn't raining. Yesterday's upload featured the upstream wall. Just remembered that even though I walked across, I caught a local bus back, from the other side. This dam was completed in 1967.

At 22.6 TWhr, (4,500 MW) this is the third largest hydro-electric station in Russia. The one at Sayano Shushenskaya (which had the recent accident in August 2009), is 26.8 TWhr (6,400 MW).

Hi Chris,

Great capture of the dam with a nice show of reservoir! The colors are beautiful and this giant dam looks so splendid from this very interesting POV. The sharpness and DOF are well chosen, giving this gigantic structure a 3-D look.

Very well done!

Hi Chris,

Even though the weather wasn't too great, the shot still turned out well. Good POV, the receding lines and partitions are well presented. Color saturation is excellent too considering the overcast skies. TFS and have a good evening.

Best regards,
Werner

Hi Chris, Good to see some more of Russia through your lens, it seems to be a place of so many huge projects and so much original design compared to the structures we see elsewhere. Good vantage point for such a dramatic scene. TFS. Murray.

Hi Chris,
Very impressive structure. Your POV enhances the size.

I wonder if you had heard about the disaster at another massive Siberian hydro dam past August. A turbine came off its mooring while running at full speed and the ensuring flooding and electrical explosions completely destroyed the powerhouse at Sayano-Shushenskaya dam killing over 70 people. This was the largest hydro power project in Russia and the 6th largest in the world.

When I saw you photo, that was the first thing that came to my mind.
