Lincoln's Lofty Remembrance
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Much of Interstate 80 as it wends westward traverses the same path as the old Lincoln Highway. This sculpture, by Robert Russin, is perhaps the most tangible remaining remembrance of the Great Emancipator along that road. According to a plaque at eye level with the base of this towering memorial, the state of Wyoming erected it in 1959, in honor of the sesquicentennial of Lincoln's birth. The plaque is headlined by one of the president's timeless challenges: "We must think anew and act anew."
Nothing fancy on this image. Only PP was cropping and very light sharpening. I believe I had my polarizer on that day, but it might just have been the UV I usually keep on my lenses. I metered on the face to try to optimize the exposure.
The height is enormous. Details on that and a photo showing the perspective on TE: ”The President and a Cowboy”.
Not your average "historical marker" -- one can't help but feel a bit of awe looking up at this very imposing figure towering in the rock. |

Hi Jim, I have always been fascinated by Abraham Lincoln, I don't know why!So I had to comment on this shot.
I have never seen this statue before, so until I looked at the link that you gave us, I could not guess the scale. That is where this shot misses out a little for me,I cannot tell just how imposing the statue is, without some other reference to its size.
Nevertheless you have given us some sharp details set against the beautiful blue sky.
Good notes.
Tfs, regards Jean.
