[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In my first "Incoming" shot, posted over at TrekNature, I got the globe thistle (echinops ritro) in focus and was surprised by a bee.

This time I just doggedly kept taking frames while the bees buzzed off and on various thistle heads, this cluster in particular. Finally, I saw a fellow making a beeline (*snort*) toward my thistle! Finally!

It was nearly dark, so the combination of macro mode and flash yielded a dark background -- I'm so happy about that good fortune. I had the camera on its action mode to give me the fastest shutter speed possible under the circumstances.

Edited in PSP to remove camera noise, clone out the reflection of another bee's wing in the background. Cropped, did USM and notched up contrast, then framed.

It's the dogged repetition which reaps the best rewards, sometimes. My big regret is that I'd gone outside to take some shots for the web and therefore only had the resolution at 1600x1200. Aaaargh!

the texture of the flower is great, the shade helps to imagine in +D. But the bee is very pixel-rich, I would run a NI on him. Happy New Year to you, and thank for all your nice pics and words!
with love,
Marcie

Amazing shot! Good details. Well done.

WOW, great shot, and great catch

Very nice shot here, Kimberly. Well done. It reminds me of a picture of my, I took last year. Only mine was a little smaller. Maybe I will post it later on. Good shot.

Best regards,

Don

Hi Kimberley.

Amazing moment. You have caught it wondrfully. Then, the quality is perfect. The DOF is excellent, how did you get this shot so perfect? it's seems that the bee is posing for you: it seems thinking "ok i'll stop and i'll pose for you"

Congratulations.
Luci

Now this is a good one. Well captured Kim, that bee is so clear to see as it is eyeing that stunning flower - what is that flower, please? You call it a thistle - beautiful thistle!
Well done
Janice

Definitely better than the TN shot! Nice details on the bee. I know how tricky it can be - took one similar after many tries...
Cheers
