World Map Black Version
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is the world map, ala Torben without the TE colors and graphic elements I added to the design. The text and photos are the same but now with a black background. I agree with the opinion stated by a number of folks that the black background is the strongest whether on this or other designs.
As a person living in the United States, I'm certainly not offended that North and South America are on the back cover. The bulk of members and photos are from other parts of the world. Besides, graphically the maps of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia offer more with which to work that the maps of North and South America. So I plan no insurrection if this arrangement is chosen using whatever specific design. ;-)
Personally, I prefer another of my designs with the single photo on the black cover, but it has received a thunderous yawn.
I'll post two workshops so you can see a larger version of this design. Select the bottom two images and compare "side-by-side" to see the front and back covers. |

Well, this TE book process finally brought me to register on TL so that I could follow the adventure! :^)
You have done a wonderful work Curtis altogether, I'm impressed at all the ideas you came up with and the technical skills you have displayed in all your attempts. Since I was really enthusiastic about Torben's proposition, I like also this one, I think the world map including the pictures is a good idea. I prefer the black (or white, as in Torben's) background. The yellow/brown background of TE is good for the site but a little sad for a book cover, I think.
I probably missed something at some point, but why do you come up with a square format book?

Hello again Curtis :)
Ahh i knew the question North/South America would came up at some point... thanks for your correct interpretation :)
This is probably my favorit until now.. i keep saying this i know, but i believe it's a good sign... we're improving.
I just notice it in this one.. you had the carefull to place a photo of the country in the country (or zone)... way to go!!!
The same remarks the previous one, plus one:
- the small sentence in back "visit our gallery in www.trekearth.com should not be over the map... just my opinion.
Mário
a lot of work, congrats.
black is a bit tooo heavy for my taste, Curtis, but let me tell you, I LOVE the way you distributed the text in the back cover!
i am for tinny little images from everywhere...

Good Layout!!!
Nice Typo.

Rgrds,

Of these four types, I definitely like the black one best, though maybe the pcitures should be a liuttle bit smaller, when I look for instance to Africa, I see the young child which is so dominant (and deservedly) and the cheetah, but because of that, it's hard to see any outline anymore, which means your goal of showing the outline of the world is diminished. Just my two cents worth. ;-)
I see in the aqua version that you have indeed used more pictures, I kind of like that.
Thanks for the trip along the covers ;-)You did a great job.
...continued from previous post
and i'd say here you have kicked it up a notch a la Emeril
this effort is starting to gel
maybe i could "live with" the black background
but it seems more divisive than white would
as a border between countries
but that's just one lonely opinion
also - i have finally noticed how the text is flavored by
your enthusiastic and amiable disposition ;-)
[fyi - that is a compliment]
