Inside the castle at night
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|I was a student at Durham University when I took this, and I had the great opportunity to stay in the castle when I was in Durham. This shot taken with my phone from in bed shows the window and lights shining on the walls from this and another window. The window out of shot to the right looks over the cathedral and the one on the left over the courtyard and keep of the castle. Bright floodlights outside both windows provide occasional illumination in the room and the old glass and lead of the left window produces and interesting form. I have some more shots which are simpler and more abstract,|
The castle which was started in 1086 is part of the world heritage area, and is used by University college Durham as a student residence, but out of university terms you can stay (and there are state rooms which can be boooked at any time at quite reasonable - for a castle- prices)
