The red pigment contained in tomatoes is called lycopene. This compound appears to act as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals that can damage cells in the body. Only recently, studies have revealed that lycopene may have twice the punch of another well-known antioxidant betacarotene. Studies conducted by Harvard researchers have discovered that men who consumed 10 servings of tomatoes a week, can cut the risk of developing prostate cancer by a formidable 45 percent. Italian researchers have found that those who consume more that 7 servings of raw tomatoes lower the risk of developing rectal colon or stomach cancers by 60 percent. Israeli researchers have found that lycopene is a powerful inhibitor of lung, breast, and endometrial cancer cells. Research has also indicated that the lycopene in tomatoes can help older people stay active longer.

When choosing your tomatoes, be sure to pick those with the most brilliant shades of red. These indicate the highest amounts of betacarotene and lycopene.
================================================

In my case, I took the most red and fresh tomatoes from the supermarket not for its health benefits but for its pictorial value...he he he

On another note, I want to convince anyone here in Treklens to try to practice your skills photographing vegetables or fruits since they don't move or complain, and of course, you can always have them after the pictorial session.

hi cesar
this is great composition, simple but very effective, and your note is very useful. very good.

I return to this photo all day and decided to write this note at last. I'm asking myself what type of surface and background you used. Could you tell me? Very nice mirroring... Saturation is very "juicy". I noticed you croped this image too much at the bottom. Look at the frame there and above, look at the leaf. It would be perfectly mirror... But generally fantastic idea.
Jarek

Ups, Now I noticed that you've answered for my question to garethgar. Sorry :-)

Simple at it's best and beautiful to the eyes to look at, bravo

Belle étude du sujet! Elles sont bien coquines vos tomates serrées l'une contre l'autre et attentives à ne pas troubler leur reflet! L'humour que vous avez ajouté avec le titre leur convient très bien. Bravo!
Annie

Hi Cesar,
Nice shot, very sharp and clear. The colors are amazing as well the soft reflection. Well done
Regards, António

You mean those red pigments are not pixells !??!
Seriously i know tomats are good about that. I like the contrast and the view of subtile reflection is great!

Hi Cesar,

I like this composition with the tomatoes attached together and the nice reflection on the white glass. TFS

Luc

I have pictures of Peppers in my gallery that are similar to this. I didn't use a reflective surface as I used a lightbox to deflect light. You have a very good shot here. nice work.

love the color and composition. i love the colours of sinigang vegetables when they're side by side, after cutting! i took a quick shot of it before...
is the floating effect photoshopped or is it a trick done during the actual shoot?

Hi - I spent sometime this morning looking through you gallery as this is the first time I'd come across your photo's. The images you create (especially the graphical /still life's) are really quite stunning. I particularly like this one. the use of the bold reds against the white background balanced by the greens of the stalks is very striking. The faint reflection splits the image in half and adds to the overall effect. Very good shot and very good work.
