[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Greg and Phillipe requested that I post another from my shoot as posted yeaterday... so here it is...

This image is about the only one I can post on TL, as most images didn't use the hat. This is one thing that I don't like about TL. It's a little bit prudish and stiffles my art, but I do understand the reasoning behind it. Anyway...

So, how was this produced?

Shot in RAW, used a modelling light set at 125W. The strobe was also set at 125W. I used a silver reflector on the floor with model on edge of bed to kill shadows as much as possible but allow form... hope that makes sense... it was kindof trial and error.

I have been getting away from my tri-pod for shots like this as I think that they are intimidating and make the process rather cold and static. With a hand-held camera you are more on a level field with the model (tip-2-remember).

Processing RAW: Pulled contrast to -50, pushed brightness +10, pulled exposure 1/3 of a stop.

Post Processing:

Considered crop, but left full frame.

In Lab-color, selected "lightness" channel, switched Mode to greyscale disgarding other channels, switched mode back to RGB. This resulted in delicate tonal aspects, but did make it a little bright... ooops... I knew I should have pulled the exposure more in RAW... oh well!

Next was to sharpen... USM: +350 @ 1px @ 0levels.

I then used the spot healing brush to remove freckles from her face because the USM made them standout too much... that is the problem with too much USM.

Then in "Levels" I adjusted the brightness a little. It just needed cooling a touch.

Done!

A lovely image but seems a touch too bright. Maybe more contrast would have worked well here. TFS,

Alli

Hi Lance,
Nice shot. After reading about the brightness, in Alli's remark, I checked the pic in a profiled program. Looks good; not too bright and nice soft contrast. Your composition looks good and dynamic with no strong elements centered. Nice pose and good use of a hat for some "modesty." Only thing that bugs me a little, is your timing. I don't really like the position of her eyes, almost looks like you caught her in mid-blink. Otherwise...great work.
Take care.

A bit on the light side, but i like her face and her expression. Very nicely done with the softness of her face. nice capture TFS

very nice pic
i look this picture as the ciggarettes burn on my finger
interesting pic

I might prefer more contrast actually but not so sure if it is just a personal preference or a technical fault to be corrected.the hat is nice there I think and since it is a local one,it adds a traditional taste to your compo,
regards

Lance,

Outstanding, I appreciate all the technical details in your note describing your shoot...I like your composition, the angles, her expression.

Well done, and thanks for posting as reqeusted!!

I like the composition and mood. Seems to me a bit over exposed, but still very good. The brightness ends up adding to the mood.

Fabulous shot, nothing to add to all the positive comments you already received. Great lighting, perfect in contrast, even better composition (and a lovely model of course).
Comliments !!

Very soft, sensous, and delicate. Well done. B

WOW! Nice high-key image. What strikes me most is that the lesser important areas are much lighter and the areas that needs attention is full of detail (due to shadows). You have controlled the lighting very excelent. Composition, cropping, balance, texteures, all very well mastered indeed. Only one thing I would have changed is the model's right arm - on closely inspecting it, it seems to have an abstract shape that is caused by the hat cutting the wrist - would have worked for me if I could see some of the fingers.
Otherwise...great work!

lovely compostion but over exposed. nice shot.
