*Ahem*..."Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

One of my dreams is to have my photo featured on the cover of the National Geographic. So, on this Friday evening, I did myself a small favour to visualise that almost impossible dream! ;p

At the same time, I wanted to pay a small tribute to all of you TL mates for this wonderful community.
The small print in the photo read as follows:

"This is for you, TL mates
Through your photos,
I have been able to
trek this earth more than
I ever will! A big thanks for that!
Keep shooting!
Mervyn."

P.S: If anybody feel that I should not post this PP because of its ressemblance to the National Geographic magazine, please let me know and I will take it out. Thanks :)

Beautiful dream, Talisman …
And your photography is more beautiful than your dream …
Thanks for sharing .

Antonio

I thought that you were anouncing that your photo really had been picked up on TL to do the cover of NG! What a great PP work!! Your photo is great and you managed to enhance it even more with this PP. I like your idea and a little bit of pride is good to have ;o)
Cheers,
Pris.

Great idea and work, Talisman !
What a nice dedication to your TL mates ... :)
I don't think there is the slightest problem about using NG "style" in this. Besides the NG frame, the shot is great, I like the mood in b&w of this man walking on this wet road in the middle of a village ...
Congrats !
Sylvie

beautiful shot and great dream......really sweet
i like the b&w and you crop of cover is wonderful

It's not too educational to say things like "Nice shot"... but this is one awsome pic you've made and enhanced! Funny and touching and altogether great. Good job, my fellow TrekLensian! I'll vote for you on the editorial board meeting if they invite me... ;)

Damn. I think you should post it without the NG cover mostly because that photo is so good and I want to see it normally! :D I do like your idea though.
That photo is excellent. Love the lighting and compositon. The DOF is perfect as well.
Cool idea. It looks good. JP

Your shot is really excellent. I like very much the focus, details and the compo. And more, I find the framing like a second way to see this shot.

Congrats

Marco

Hi Talisman,

That's a great shot that desearve to be at the front page, If they could only see it, and have a news that match with it. Great shot.

Luc

I am sure nobody will object to it mervyn. The shot is excellent..the B/Wtones ..a slice of daily life. I like that the chap is walking from the wet path into the frame. Like Prisley said, its nice to have little pride and to see one of your dreams realised. Good job with the pic as well as the PP. TFS

PS Thanks for the dedicataion :)

There is nothing wrong with this - please leave it. You explain clearly that it is a "parody" or imitation if you will. I love it. The image itself looks very National Geographic. I think this creation of yours is very creative, and the image itself has a lot of technical merrit. I love the details and the exposure. It is perfect the way you captured the rain slicked street. A++++++!

good to see you back bro :)
this is a beautiful shot, perfect for National Geographic, i hav no problems with that :)

awsome sharpness and details in the shot, the DOF is perfect, beautiful tones and composition

i think your trip to China has push your skills to a new level :) well done

Congratulations to work in so wonderful publication. Although it is
virtually. Great work.
;)

Fantastic flattery. All your mates should be honored. Graphically, I think the yellow and black borders [maybe?] should have touched somehow to become more integrated, while still preserving the NG "look." Just a thought, but not to detract from the great underlying shot or the ppidea. Congrats.

Nice inventive shot Talisman. Beautifuly captured. Excellent composition. What a nice cover it would make!
Bravo

you did it very well, perfectly 'placed, well done, (*_*)

Well, in my opinion Talisman, it should have been on the cover of NG.
A brilliant original idea and even without the NG bits, it is still a cracking picture.
Thanks for sharing.
Michael.

Great! Excellent N/B composition and original PP work, very creative.
Your shot is absolutely beautiful with and without the added frame.
My compliments Mervyn!

This is great photo Talisman, with nice dedication. I must say it's good for the NG's cover. I like it very much! Regards,

Lukas.

Very good work, Talisman! Very good framing. Now, you have two good images in one; the one in the cover, and the whole original image. I do have a little critique: the NG frame touching the outer frame. Hard to fix considering where the man is positioned in the photo, though. Still, a very small critique considering the quality of the photo. Great job!

Wow, Mervyn,
you created a masterpiece! I can't get enough of looking at this photo with superb composition and DOF, plus such a great sharpness. The subject of your documentary photo is indeed worthy enough to end up on a cover of NG! Well, it will definitely end up in my favourites!
...and, yes...thank you, Trekmate ;)

Welcome back, Mervyn, I have missed your pictures & comments while you were away! Such a wonderful picture to come back with, quite worthy of NG in my opinion, and thanks for the lovely dedication.

I like how you have framed it as a big splash cover page that open up on NG but I think I would also have like to see the picture on its own. The composition is just perfect, the B&W is so rich and the man smoking his pipe balancing stuff on his shoulder is so well captured that we feel we are looking at the scene standing beside you. Excellent and looking forward to seeing more from you!

A person has to dream, when one stops dreaming, he/she is tired of life. When you become a National Geographic photographer, I can be proud and say Talisman is one of us at TL! Very nice photo and beautiful magazine cover.

Thank you for your visit and comments on my photo, "California Coast v1". The big, dark foreground is purposely done to catch attention. This artwork is a cross between classic fine art and advertising art.

Cute! Superb pseudo cropping & approximation of a well known logo. Good work!

This is a very nice composition. To take the photo in B/W was very good. It look like a foto from NG!
I like it.

Such a good idea, and well it's just very sentimental! :)
When this photo was a thumbnail and I saw it, I actualy thought you had taken a shot of the same place as the National Geographic. And then just added the cover onto your photo, certainly looks like it! :)

As for the shot itself, I honestly think it's worthy of making it onto the cover of NG, it all depends on the background of the photo though. Great work, very singular! :)

Probably the first time when a "frame" brings more than 100 points. The photo itself (actualy excelent in original) would have been rated far below.
But what I really like is that finaly I see a frame properly used on TL :)
