[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While at a convention in New Orleans, I had the opportunity to walk around the French Quarter. The street performances were better than most bands I pay to see in the night clubs. These guys were playing to a crowd of approximately 75 people. They had a bucket in front of them (not pictured) where people could throw in some change to support the musical habit and probably put food on the table. Of all the things that should return to New Orleans, I hope music is the first. This is what made New Orleans famous.

pp: cropped, sharpen, border, text, and removed a knee that messed with the arrangement.

Great job Aaron, and a great note.

There are at least six 'special' photos to be had from this one. I particularly like the D/Bass player on the RHS. He would be a great subject in a single frame.
Sharpened?
Try PhotoFiltre. This can be sharpened MUCH more to great effect. I will take this one across into PF, select the bass player and see if I can get a result. Nope - the image wouldn't enlarge without major degradation. But, did sharpen a lot more. Download PF.
Later - I will be back. No 'gongs' left.

Hello Aaron,
Music is in the blood of Orleanians, lol!!! We have renown musicians supporting housing for displaced musicians. They will be back~waiting in the winds are the new generation!!!
Great shot of our heritage! TFS,
Fran

hello aaron, love the mood of this compo. the desaturation of the background is perfect, to focus on the performers. Very nice point of view and pof. cheers, gabriel.

I like it, Aaron. Good mood that you've captured here.
Not your fault that there's a cluttered background, and I don't think that really matters in documentary style photography.
I only wish that the highlights weren't burnt out. This is a challenge, but it can be resolved. In this type of situation, I always have the camera set to at least minus 2/3 of a stop, or sometimes to even a full stop under. (This is in aperture preferred mode, in which I feel most comfortable.) This allows me to capture the highlights, and I can retrieve shadow detail in the postprocessing.
All depends on the camera, though, as you have to be able to shoot in RAW and have a sensor that doesn't give you too much noise when you push the shadows. (In my case, I have no problems at all in doing this with my Canon 350D, but not a hope in the world with my old Minolta 7Hi.)
Still glad you uploaded this for us to see.
Yours,
Andrew.
