Dear SP:
Here is what I did. I have used Adobe Photoshop CS3.
1. Open image in a layer in Photoshop
2. Using Rectangular Marquee Tool, select the portion shown here. (Taken out some empty sky area)
3. Using Ctrl+C, Copy selected area.
4. Ctrl+V, paste this selection as a new layer. You will see the next layer in the layer pallet.
5. Select both layers in the layer pallet & align them as you wish; here I chose center alignment.
6. From Smart Sharpen filter, add some sharpness.
7. Add a slight saturation, just enough.
8. Using Curve ( Ctrl+M ), increase slight contrast for details. (All this time you must select the top layer that you created)
Flatten image & post.
Thanks

In Adobe PSCS3, I have used curves to take away some brightness, created another layer by selecting the image without the whites of the border. Darkened the second layer to make the white border black.
Increase a bit of saturations.
