i think you have here a great picture, full of intense feelings. So i've made a personal version of your picture. I've marked better the contrast, so the feelings can be more powerfull, i've cropped the image to approximate the viewer to the statue, and toned it to pure b&w, it's a personal preference. I hope you like, after all the work is yourse.

1) brought down brightness
2) push up contrast
3) burn the face to get the highlighted area the same as the shadow
4) Unsharp mask
5) highlighting the eyes a bit
There are many more processing steps to be followed but I hope this demonstrates a start... |
