Text effects in Photoshop | mike
(280) [2004-11-21 02:54:02] [7] | Hi Jan,
Text effects like this are used widely in the graphics industry, Photoshop gives you much easier ways of creating them though, it should only take a few steps to achieve exactly the effect you are looking for.
First thing is to select the correct text tool, if you hold the left mouse button down over the text tool you will find some extra options hidden beneath, choose the horizontal type mask tool instead of the normal tool. This allows you to place the shape of the text on your image without actually adding a text layer. Then enter your text (the screen will turn red here.)
You can change the size and shape of your text by having the character window open and changing any values you wish, making the text longer, wider, shorter, anything you like really.
When you're happy with the result, click the okay icon (the tick), the text will change to a dotted line mask, then either choose edit/copy and paste it into a new image, or.... as I've done here, right click on the text mask and choose layer via copy to place the text shaped image onto a new layer, you can then add bevels, drop shadows, or any other effect you wish.
Knowing how to add text effects gives you a whole new world to explore, and it's really easy when you get used to the many options Photoshop gives you. |
