 Full view... | Dingo
(11636) [2008-09-29 12:30:19] | ...or rather, half of a full view.
Underneath the bottom of the shot there's another level where people can buy tickets.
Just couldn't resist including the ceiling which, by the way, was inspired by the Roman Pantheon...
I also like the ciaro-scuro in this shot.
Thanks for looking... |

 L'union fait... | Dingo

Nice words maybe, though anyone of you who is familiar with Belgian politics these last 2 years knows that the slogan has been changed to "L'union fait la farce"...
Ah well, we'll see. To be continued...
This is the national coat of arms, to be "admired" in the Central Station in Antwerp.
Thanks for looking! |

 Crop, b&w conversion | Dingo
(11636) [2008-09-22 13:33:10] [2] | Hi Fons
To make the backdrop more even, and to slightly change Gaston's position in the frame, I cropped off the window frame on the left.
In CS3 I did the conversion to b&w using a b&w adjustment layer.
Added an adjustment layer for curves, with a mask on the eyes. Increased the lightness of his eyes.
Added another adjustment layer for curves, with a mask on the backdrop. Decreased the brightness there.
Yet another adjustment layer for curves, with a mask on the jacket and shirt. Decreased their brightness.
Then a final adjustment layer for curves on the dark shady part on the right hand side of his face. Added some light there.
Too bad the harsh sunlight caused such strong shadows of his glasses...
Finally, slightly increased sharpness with USM. |

 Light & sharpness | Dingo
(11636) [2008-09-21 08:28:04] [3] | Maria, as said, the light wasn't right in your shot, at least not in my opinion.
I used adjustment layers for levels, curves and colour balance - I think this shot contains too much red...
Levels: move the blackpoint to 14, lightness (middle arrow) to 0.8.
Curves: locked the middle point, then input 75 » output 70, then input 180 » output 190. But: I used an opacity of 70% on that layer.
Color balance: -20, 0, 0 to decrease the reds.
Shadows and highlights: +10, +20. Goal: keep details in the black t-shirt, and darken the backdrop.
Finally: sharpening with USM 110%, 0.5, 0.
I know this caused a halo and jaggies in certain spots, like in his glasses. I'm sure you could fine-tune this process since you have the large original.
Hope you like it... |

 Several adjustments | Dingo
(11636) [2008-09-19 14:46:44] [4] | Hi Argyris
I mentioned some technical problems, and tried to tackle some of them in this workshop.
My goal: a slight tweak in composition, and adding a little more punch to the shot.
I used adjustment layers for levels and curves to increase contrast and get more lively colours.
I also think the colour balance in the mountains is a bit off, so made a colour balance adjustment layer with these settings: shadows +2, 0, +5; midtones +5, -15, +10; highlights -5, +3, -2.
Another adjustment layer for hue and saturation: H 0, S -10, L -6.
Cropped a wee bit to get the ship more off centre, and to cut more from the top of the hill. I didn't mention this in the critique, but that hilltop should have been intact...
Finally, a little frame to detach the blueish picture from tl's blueish backdrop. |

I like the way the curly blonde girl is looking towards me, while the other girl doesn't appear to be interested at all. |

 Seal or sea-dog? | Dingo
(11636) [2008-09-03 11:30:05] | | He just loves to swim and to play with his frisbee too. So a combination of both joys must come close to doggy heaven for Dingo ☺^☺... |

I couldn't resist the partial motion blur on the right hand side of his face, and the sharpness on the left side. And the droplets, of course... |
