You can over-sharpen to already anticipate the loss of sharpness you get in compression!

USM +80, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold.
Edit-fade to lighter

USM +150, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold.

I started with an usm of +5, 40 pix radius, 10 treshold.

Then a 150% USM, 0.3 pix radius and 0 treshold. Edit-fade to lighter, 100% opacity.
Last a 80% USM, 0.3 pix radius and 0 treshold. Edit fade to darker, 100% opacity.

And in the end a noise reduction on the background with Noise Ninja photoshop plugin.

I did crop a bit of the right and the top as well to place the bird a bit differently into the compo. Hope you like it!

I started with some unsharp masking:

150%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. Then edit-fade to lighter. 100% opacity.
After that 80% USM, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. Edit-fade to darker. 100% opacity.

After that I played with the hue, saturation and lightness of the various colour channels to just give it a little bit more punch.

I added a white frame with a thin grey line to isolate it a bit more from the light blue TL background. Hope you like it!

I started with some unsharp masking;

80%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. Then edit-fade to lighter, 100% opacity. After that another one of 80%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. But then edit-fade to darker, 100% opacity.

Last I played a bit with hue/saturation and lightness to give it a bit more punch in the colours.
Hope you like it!

I wanted the overall feel a bit lighter. For that, I used velvia vision plugin. What it basically does is that it combines brightness/contrast, highlight/shadows and hue/saturation to get that velvia feel. I mostly adjusted on the dynamic range, to get the sun hitting the foreground a bit brighter.

After that an unsharp mask, 80%, 0.3 pix, 0 treshold. Edit-fade to light - 100 percent opacity.
After that the same, but then edit-fade to dark - 100 percent opacity.

Hope you like it!

I used a plugin for photoshop called Velvia Vision. You can enhance contrast and warmth with it, but it only enhances the harsher colours - like Velvia film would. You see the enhancement especially in the green and the orange-tones here. I used contrast 1, warmth 1, 20% effect and 80% opacity overlay in the plugin.

Then an USM 80%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. After that an edit-fade to light w 100% opacity.
And last an USM 80%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. After that an edit-fade to darker w 100% opacity.

The last two bring out the little details without creating too much noise. Hope you like it!

I used 4 unsharp masks.

USM 80%, 0.3 pix, 0 treshold. Then edit-fade to lighter with 100% opacity. Second a same USM 80%, 0.3 pix, 0 treshold. Then edit-fade to darker with 100% opacity.

After that I repeated this a second time. Hope you like the increase of sharpness on your subject.

Hi Jan,

I like the low colour tone in your photograph, but it could be a tad sharper.

I used two unsharp masks. The first one 150%, 0.3 pix at 0 treshold. Then edit-fade towards darker with 100% opacity.
Second a 150%, 0.3 pix at 0 treshold. Then edit-fade towards lighter with 100% opacity.

Hope you like it!

Then an unsharp mask 150%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. Then edit-fade to lighter with 100% opacity.

Last a noise reduction with noise ninja plugin, only the sky at 18/20 reduction, 4/20 smoothness.

Hope you like it!
