I started with an unsharp mask 150%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. Then edit-fade to darker with 100% opacity.
Then an unsharp mask 150%, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold. Then edit-fade to lighter with 100% opacity.

Last a noise reduction with noise ninja plugin, only the sky at 18/20 reduction, 4/20 smoothness.

Hope you like it!

After the curves adjustments of the previous photograph, I used Noise Ninja Photoshop plugin to work on the noise in the background.
I selected the gradual points that were a bit noisy in the background, then +20/20 in the intensity of the noise reduction, but not too soft +5/20 in softness. The contrast was neutral. Hope you like it!

I thought the shot could do with a bit balancing to give it a bit more of a punch.

In the curves option, there is the option to set your white points, black points and neutral points. All other tones are referred to these three points.
The black point I took from the left top branch. The white point in the whitest snow and the grey on the front branch I have choosen for the neutral point. Hope you like it!

I made a number of unsharp mask actions. An action is like a macro. You can record it and play it later on. It's a second tab in the history menu.

I started with an USM+Dark action:
unsharp masking of 150%, 0.3 pix radius and 0 treshold. Then edit - fade to mask at 100% opacity and towards 'darker'.

After that an USM+Light option:
Unsharp masking of 150%, 0.3 pix radius and 0 treshold. Then edit - fade to mask at 100% opacity and towards 'lighter'.

The first one contrasts the dark areas, the second one works on the lighter areas.

After that the curves option. I set the white point in the white of the eye and the dark point in the shadow of the head. Those are the points that set my minimum + maximum tone. All other tones are now set to these reference points.

Last a final unsharp masking of 30%, 0.3 pix and 0 treshold. Hope you like the result!

I started with an unsharp mask of 150% - 0.3 pix radius no treshold.
Then I faded it to darken with 100% opacity.
After that +5 contrast and a last unsharp mask at 30% - 0.3 pix.

Just that little punch to the edges, without getting those white unsharp masking lines. Hope you like it!

I had the feel that the original had a bit of a red casting over the entire shot.

I started with a curves option, set the black point at the side of the road, the white point on the frame and the neutral point on the grey cloud.
Then a contrast enhancement of +10 and an unsharp mask of +5, 40 pix radius and 0 treshold.

A bit more intense to my feel and less red colour cast. The green of the field and blue of the sky feels better to me. Well, hope you like it! ;-)

I cropped a part of the right and a little of the bottom. Then a curve adjustment where I set the black and white points to make it a bit more intense.
Last a 10% orange photo filter layered over it, resized from 745 to 720 and a frame added.

Just a different version, not necessarily better ;-).

:-) I did all in Photoshop CS3:

- Edge sharpening;
- Contrast enhancement of +20;
- Noise reduction on the dark sky with Noise Ninja plugin. Low noise reduction, low softness, average contrast;
- Unsharp masking of 20%, 40 pix radius, 10 treshold.

Hope you like it!

I started with an adjustment in the curves, just to bring the blacks out that little bit more. Then a sharpening. After that a contrast enhancement of +10, a little adjustment on the highlights of 4% and last an adjustment in saturation of +6. Hope you like the result!

I added an unsharp mask of 30% - 50 pixel radius. After that +10 contrast and +2 brightness. Just a little bit more of a punch...
