(2) [2007-09-01 23:17:40] [1] | Hi Jan,
Don't be too gentle on the USM and contrast!
I added a 20% Unsharp Mask at 50 pixel radius. After that +5 in contrast and +3 in highlights to emphasize the clouds.
Hope you like it! |

(2) [2007-08-25 19:10:56] | In photoshop 10.0 CS3. I started with a counter clockwise rotation of -1.7.
After that a transformation of distortion, since I did not want to cut off too many sides, I stretched the image to fit the old frame. Then I pasted a layer with the frame, some unsharp masking and smart sharpen et voilá!
Has to be said, the quality of transformation tools is highly dependent on the size of the shot you work with! In this case, it's more to show you what is possible with the transformation tools. Hope you like it! |

(2) [2007-08-22 02:47:49] [1] | All done in Photoshop CS3.
I started with a non-CS3 plugin, called Noise Ninja. I profiled the sky, used the noise reduction on 20/20, softness low at 3/20 and a contrast enhancement of 16/20.
After that, added some extra contrast +8 and some saturation - master channel +5.
I wasn't entirely convinced by the foreground at that point, I selected all the figures with colour range selection. Then I filled them with the blackest black I could find.
A sharpen edges sharpen. And after that I checked all edges at 400% zoom, to get rid of noise in the sky on the edges with 75% blur tool. After that, selection of the sky and a small blur to get rid of the latest noise and the little patch of land in the right distance got blurred +15%.
Hope you like the result! |

I used colour selection on various parts of the shots. I started with the beach, than the island in the distance, the water and then the chairs. In each case, I adjusted with the colour variations and lightness/darkness options. After that I used a polarizer filter on the sky. After that a noise reduction on the sky. In the end an unsharp mask on the shot of 12% - 50 pixel radius. And last a smart sharpen of 8% - 2 pixel radius.
Hope you like it! |

 Quad toning | Dpbours
(2) [2007-08-15 00:28:00] | Hi David,
You either love sepia, or you don't.... ;-)
I love quad toning. Here it goes:
You convert a shot to greyscale, so not just a black and white in RGB mode. In this case I first did an increase in shadows of 5%
Then changed the mode to Greyscale and after that opened the Mode - Duotone menu. Here I selected the option to use quad tones and in your Photoshop you will find pre-defined settings. I loaded the 3rd setting of the Pantone Quadtones and this is the result.
To give it that old feel, I opened the plugin 'Virtual Photographer'. Look on the internet, it's freeware!! Here you can set the type of film and the plugin adds grain for that film. This is an ISO400 B/W film.
Then after that a smart sharpen of 12% at 2 pixel radius and a frame added with the canvas option (2pix black, then 96 pix white, then 2 pix black.)
Hope you like the result! |

 Skewness | Dpbours
(2) [2007-08-10 23:55:08] | I duplicated the layer. Top layer was the frame, cut out the picture. Bottom layer was to work on.
A third layer with some lines on top to have my reference.
The lowest layer was selected, transformation - skewness option and then I adjusted the right bottom and middle part up to the moment that all lines in the shot were horizontal.
I got rid of my reference layer with the horizontal lines and merged the adjusted layer with the top layer that I kept for the frame.
Hope you like it! |
