 Super Crop | GabesterTL
(394) [2005-09-06 12:16:09] [4] | I wanted to concentrate on a small section of the roof to focus on the pattern. I composed it so that the branch would seperate the image in two triangles. I did tilt it a bit to the left before cropping.
I also converted to B&W with a slight toning so that the colors would not distract from the pattern.
The last touch up was to reduce the white specs that came from the sharpening. So in PS I duplicated the layer and applied USM to it. I then changed that layer's blending mode to Darken (so that only the dark lines of the USM would show through). It created a stronger contrast on the edges and diffused the white specs.
Finally double-matted, mate.
Just another vision, hope you like it. |

 Shadow correction | GabesterTL
(394) [2005-08-29 10:39:21] [3] | Hi Marleen I tried to correct the dark areas in the bottom of the picture, hope you like it.
Processed in Photoshop:
- Made a layer with a vertical b&W gradient on soft light blending mode (opacity 75%).
- Made a levels adjustment layer and brought back the shadows.
- Made a curves adjustment layer to keep the night mood of the photo.
- Flattened layers and ran through neat image (some noise had appeared in the process). |

 Levels Correction | GabesterTL
(394) [2005-07-07 01:29:21] [2] | Using Photoshop CS I've applied a levels adjustment layer. In the options I've brought back the shadows from 0 to 12 (in the RGB range) and the Highlights from 255 to 245. Using the droppers I've set the darkest point and brightest point on the image and this was the result.
Hope you like it. |

 Midnight Colored | GabesterTL
(394) [2005-03-18 06:44:25] [5] | I just wanted to add some color to this composition. I really like your B&W version though.
Modified in Photoshop:
- I first painted different layers using a soft-edge brush
:White for the face.
:Two tones of red for the mouth.
:Two tones of yellow for the eyes.
:Black for the background.
- I've changed all these layers' blending mode to soft-light and reduced the opacity of some of them.
- I then created some layer styles for the yellow eyes
:Outer glow for the darker yellow (spilling out of the eyes)
:Inner glow, Drop Shadow, Satin for the brighter yellow (inside the eyes)
- I then duplicated the original layer and put it on top.
- I filled it with a red-trasparent gradient with a soft-light blending mode (opacity: 40%)
- I copied the original layer again and put it bellow the previous layer.
- Created a duotone of red and black with this one and changed the blending mode to color (opacity: 25%). This was to get the slight overall reddish color.
- Framed.
Hope you like it. |

Levels & Automatic corrections | GabesterTL

 Newspaper Look | GabesterTL
(394) [2004-10-19 05:15:58] [2] | Just a quick workshop to enhance the contrast and create a newspaper look to this action shot. Hope you like it.
[PS - Tech Talk]
- Created a Brightness/Contrast layer effect with Contrast at +30.
- Used Filter>Texture>Grain, chose intensity: 10, contrast: 30 & type: horizontal.
- Used the Blur tool on the sign to blend the warning.
- Created a Text layer to remake the warning (I wanted it a bit more visible).
- Used Edit>Transform>Skew to position it on the sign.
- Used Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur at 1.0 after rasterizing the text. |

Photoshop CS Grayscale - B&W workshop | GabesterTL
(394) [2004-09-29 11:07:41] | The Grayscale technique is the easiest to convert a picture to B&W. However the shadows may sometimes be too harsh and hide some of the details.
