I couldn’t make nice background softness straight from the camera since the room size restricted the usage of zoom lens (for a softer background).

I had used a bounced flash light for the lighting in this shot.

Created a copy of the background layer, made it B/W and set the blend mode to Multiply with opacity of 23%
Created a second copy of the background layer, place it on top of the layer stack and set blend to softlight with opacity of 21%
Erase the eyes and lips from the 'Multiply' layer and the erased the eyes from the 'Soft Light' layer.
Finally added a saturation adjustment layer for the lips (everything else masked out) with Saturation +18

Cheers,
Jens

I used adobe elements 6.0 to try and add some contrast.

Duplicated the original layer and turned it grayscale (CTRL + SHIFT + U) and set the blending mode to Multiply with opacity of 72%
Duplicated the original layer again and place it on top of the layer stack. For this layer I set the blending mode to Soft Light and the opacity to 30%
I flattened the image and did a little levels adjustment.

Hope you like it.

I did nothing whatsoever to this wonderful image except to clone over the single burned out lamp using the glow from the one next to it. I realize the diameter of the glow should be a slight bit larger according to diminishing perspective. Don't know if it is really any better, but there you have it.
