 Highlight/Shadow | Silke
(23150) [2008-09-07 09:03:12] | Hi Murray
Shooting against the sun is always such a tricky business. I overcome the strong backlight here, I simply used the Highlight/Shadow tool in Image < Adjustments and decreased the shadows by 50% and the highlight by 14%
I hope you like the result?

 Highlight/Shadow only | Silke
(23150) [2008-09-07 08:49:21] | Hi Janice
All I did was to use the Highlight/Shadow tool in Image < Adjustments in Photoshop CS2. I increased the light in the shadows by 50% - the result is subtle, but I hope you think it's worthwhile

Hue & Saturation, Luminance | Silke
(23150) [2008-09-05 14:46:35] [4] | I really love the composition of this one, but felt that it would be overlooked because it needed a little more brightness and a little more contrast.
For the contrast, I selected the background and used Colour Saturation, sliding the hue slider 50% to the right to create a blue that was on the opposite side of the colour wheel to the yellow - this creates the contrast you need. Then I selected "Match Colour" in Image Adjustments and slid the slider for Luminance all the way to the right -- adding 200% luminance. I hope you like the result. |

 1) dodge 2) selective contrast | Silke
(23150) [2008-09-05 10:12:19] | Hi Ron
Thanks for the reminder :)
Please not that my changes would work much better on the original image, but this might give you the general idea.
In Photoshop CS2, I selected the dodge tool, set it at 0% hardness (i.e. as soft as possible) and set the size as wide as the narrower portion of the band of trees. Then I set it to dodge midtones only, since the highlights are fine and
the shadow setting is usually very heavy-handed. I brushed across the whole band once, and then did some areas a second time, fading the effect by 50% each time.
I hope you like the result for e res.
While I had the image open, I also selected the sky and clouds using the "magic wand" and holding down the shift key to add more bits. then I increased the contrast for that portion by about 30% to give the sky a little more punch
I hope this gives you a few more ideas and tools :)
