Another way to eliminate the distractions of the boys in the background is to convert the image to sepia so that the colours clash less. Here I burned in the boys just a little and then desaturated, increased the contrast and added a sepia filter at 98% density

Hi Karen
I simply erased all the background and created a new layer into which I pasted a Duerer print with colours that compliment her complexion a little more. this is only a very rough and VERY hasty WS, but I thought it would help you see how backgrounds affect the image.

Grasses and trees tend to be more yellow than green, even though our mind's eye wants them to be green. So - in order to make the capture fit with *my* mind's eye:
I opened up the image in Photoshop CS 2 and opened the colour saturation pallet.
I selected yellow and moved the "hue" slider slightly to the right, which made the greens more intense and then increased the colour saturation of green alone by 15%.
I also increased the colour saturation of red by 25% so that the few red flowers are a bit more visible.
Finally I added a very narrow black frame at top and bottom, 25% thicker at the bottom than the top.
The colour saturation alone would have been enough to make the image pop, as you can see if you cover up the framing. The bit of framing simply helps separate the image from the blue BG on TrekLens

This is only a quick fix, Ronald - so it is NOT perfect.
What I did was to select just the frame area and adjust both the hue and the saturation to try for a rustier look. What do you think?
I don't know what software you use, but another way to do this would be to apply a green filter with minimal luminosity just to the frame.

This is a fairly simple correction - using photoshop, I simply sampled the clouds close to the wire and painted over the wire. the best way to do this is to sample many times so that you can imitate the texture of the clouds and not get a repeating pattern that shows that you have indeed sampled from another part of the image.
I hope you like the result

HI Joni
What I did in Photoshop was simply to open Image > Adjustments > Colour Saturation and then just the Cyan and move the Hue slider to the left to cool down the cyan to a more blue tint (about 10%). Then, in Image > Adjustments > Shadow/Highlight, I adjusted the shadows by 5% and the highlights by 12% so that you can see a little more detail in the shadowed area of the balloon
Thanks For Sharing and I hope you like the result.
