(17840) [2008-10-02 13:15:53] [1] | And now to show you what I was saying in my critique. Since the reflection is crystal clear there is nothing that keeps me from cropping trees and even a part of the beautiful roof.
I wanted to accentuate the fog, so I cropped a 800 x 800 piece out of a grey cloudy sky, pasted it next to your cropped picture that I also resized to 800 pixels heigh and used the clone stamp to ever so slightly add a tiny bit of fog - imagine that - it worked! The things you can find out when doing a WS.
Then the water intrigued me, I worked a bit on the histogram untill I thought I could see the bottem, but that is just a personal preference.
Well, thanks for letting me discover how to make my own fog! Hope you like the more intimate feel this picture gives now - or so I hope.

(5149) [2007-09-27 13:30:34] [1] [+] | | There are a series of test showing the difference using apply image in both RGB & LAB with the different channels. The last image I applied the 'b' channel twice and then used the layer pallet blend if sliders to bring back the darker red tones of the sign. The greens are lighter & the sky is darker. You just can't do that easily with burning & dodging. |

Another thing I did to this photo was to increase the canvas size by 500 pixels in all directions. Then I added the distort>spherize effect. By adding a large canvas and then doing the spherize effect, you don't end up with an akward unaffected portion of the photo around the edges. Instead, the entire photo is affected and the effect is more subtle and more natural. I also did an unsharp mask to bring out some highlights of the building and the clouds. It doesn't look as natural as the original, but I think it looks pretty good. |
