I think the Merc logo is really old fashioned and dull.

I duplicated the image to another layer. On the top layer I used a the 'twirl' distortion filter in MS Digital Image Pro (aka PictureIt) with a setting of +20.

I cropped the top image around the circle, and used a "Pencil: detailed sketch" filter on the background layer.

To blend both layers I used a gradient circular transparency filter on the top layer.

What do you think ?

Μπάμπη, I agree with David's remarks.
Worked with MS PictureIt : used magic wand to select the sky, copied to separate layer, and applied noise reduction to it : luminant noise 60, chromatic noise 20.

Used levels auto fix on the background layer, and applied very little sharpening...

Μπάμπη,

I cropped very tight around the sign.

Then I tried to correct for horizontal and vertical perspective distortion using PictureIt's distortion filters.
I was not entirely succesful, possibly because of some lens distortion.
Finally, sharpened a bit with USM 85 %;1;1.

I thought it was an awkward sight to see the church and the tree leaning towards each other. This is due to your low PoV. I corrected this with MS PictureIt's "Vertical perspective distortion" filter, setting -31.
Then I corrected the tilt of the picture by turning it -very slightly- ccw.
Alas a lot of the beautiful blue Greek sky disappeared in the process.
I used the Remove Noise tool setting 40 % luminant noise and 40 % chromatic noise.
And finally sharpened USM 85%; 1; 1.
Less than 5 minutes work, but I hope you like it Μπάμπη...

Just to constrain everything in a smaller photo
1 - selected the coconut tree and created a layer
2 - moved the layer on top of the tower
3 - changed the opacity of the layer to 20%(just to see the intersection between the to objects) and erase until match the roof edge.
4 - Opacity back to 100%
5 - Duplicated background layer and used perspective to make the tower more straight
6 - Rotated the coconut tree layer a bit (instead of using perspective)

With photoshop 7.0

tilted the pic 1.5 °cw
added you frame again

This is just a minor adjustment Mpampis, but it makes the difference between a good picture and just a picture.. Don't you agree?
