 For the CRT | bombilla
(1950) [2007-05-04 11:02:00] | | Once again, this issue. On my LCD screen at home, the original post looks fine. On my dark, old (bad) CRT in the office, it looks better with this additional contrast and sharpening. (But on the LCD, this version looks too sharp and too contrasty, losing its subtlety.) What can you do? It's quite an imperfect medium at this point in time. |

 contrast | bombilla
(1950) [2007-04-30 10:39:10] | | Original uploaded from a bright screen. When I look at this on a darker screen, it needs to look like this, with slight increase in contrast. Part of the fundamental problem of digital photography -- no screen standard. |

 Selective Brightening | Sarah171
(4160) [2007-04-09 13:41:14] [3] | | I had the same idea as Mark. I selectively darkened the background and lightened the main subject. You can do this in many photo editing programs by dodging/burning and/or masking if you know how. Our eyes are generally drawn to the lightest part of the frame. |

 Sharpen | bombilla
(1950) [2007-04-04 12:37:08] | | This one is sharper. Not sure which looks better. Any thoughts? This is an issue I'm struggling with a lot lately. How much sharpening to do. Results seem to vary from screen to screen as well. Part of the problem with digital images -- no standards for screen parameters. |

Seperating layers, adjusting brightness | Liekje
(160) [2007-03-23 19:44:15] | I really like the original photo of the man alone in the desert, but I thought the dark spots on the left and right were slightly disturbing.
Selected dark spots, created a different layer of these spots and added minor brightness.
Also selected man and made him a different and added some saturation here, and decreased brightness a little to make him a bit darker and make him stand out more.
Cropped (mainly top) and resized to make it 200kb for upload.
Hope you like it, I did my best :) |
